Story Behind the Drawing

The Sparrow is the second drawing in my bird series. These drawings focus on different bird species and the mood that each bird inspires. Sparrows are common birds that build nests in old buildings, work diligently on their homes, and are often distinguished by whether they are “New World” or “Old World” sparrows. As a result, I created a composition that includes a cuckoo-clock-like frame, a mountain countryside, nests in the rafters, and a compass to suggest both the idea of a journey as well as the importance of home.
