The world is more magical than we realize.
Hi, there!
My name is Mackenzie, and I am the artist, illustrator, and author behind Mackenzie Myrick Studio. (And anything you happen to find stashed within the nooks and crannies of the website. The dormice have a terrible habit of running off with things).
I create whimsical pen and ink drawings rooted in nature and storytelling. My artwork and stories are grounded in reality, but they also live in a fantastical world where raccoons bring ice cream sundaes to parties and rabbits craft the most excellent olive oil throughout Europe.
(Because, truthfully, who knows what beavers and dragonflies get up to when we're not around).
Most of all, my work is intended to bring more joy, imagination, and curiosity to everyday living. I believe the world is more magical than we realize, and, by tuning into the oddities and curiosities of the world around us, we can more fully appreciate everything it has to offer.
A few questions (and a few answers)
Do you write all of the stories for your drawings?
Yes! Each drawing has an original story, written by yours truly. Sometimes the stories come before the drawings, and sometimes they come afterwards. (Writing can be a silly goose sometimes). Find the stories under each product.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere, but a few things that continuously inspire me (and often feature in my drawings) include:
- Antiques
- Quaint bookshops
- Folklore and history
- Bookmaking
- Old postcards
- Desserts and pastries
- Cool weather
- Candles and candlelight
- The smoke when you blow out candles
- Muted colors
- Gardens and wildflowers
- The smell of basil
- Sunlight through leaves
- Fairytales and myths
