Figs and Honey

Story Behind the Drawing
Each year on the first day of Autumn, this California Quail awakens ready to decorate and prepare for the coming crisp and colorful season. Once his eyes have adjusted to the morning sun, he leaves his resting place to take a quick dust bath. (He has to keep his feathers in tip top shape, of course). Then he gathers all of his favorite fall items: fresh figs that have fallen to the ground, wispy wheat stalks for decorating, and bits of mahogany bark that can be used for cooking. He also visits a beehive for a jar of sweet honey — the perfect addition to any and all fig desserts.
